Caravaggio Skin tone Study

This image is very rough, not exactly  1 for 1. It was done as a skin tone exercise and i feel that i accomplished my goal. I got very close to the skin tone of the original it made me very excited! I was also using the great book Color and Light by James Gurney as a little bit of a guide.

The 80/20 rule

The 80/20 Rule is an old mathematical formula created by the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto.  At the time, Pareto stated this rule was based on the principal that 20% of the population owned 80% of the wealth.  In later years this rule has been used in many different ways and you have probably heard a few of them too, such as: 20% of the salespeople produce 80% of a company’s sales.  Or 20% of the employees produce 80% of the companies’ profits. Another is that 20% of the population pays 80% of the countries’ income taxes!  My rule is that an artists should be spending 20% of their time creating art and 80% of their time marketing and administering to their art business in order to be a successful artist.

Classy Beauty Wip

Here is a slight work in progress pictures showing beginning drawing to finish. She is is an amalgamation of many features from many woman.

She changed from the initial drawing. I wasn't exactly happy with the smile. After scanning it look goofy to me. I just ended giving her a neutral face instead.

Artistic reads i would recommend!

I recently have been doing ton's of figure drawing to hone my craft. When i get to the point that i want i plan on just kicking out tons of work. The art books right now that i have found especially insightful about Human anatomy are: Anatomy a complete guide for artists by Joseph Sheppard, Drawing Lessons From The Great Mastersby Robert Beverly Hale, and for use of color and light, Color and Light by James Gurney. I would recommend them all. They have been very helpful, and a must for anyone who is serious about painting or artistic anatomy.

Sketches from the Minneapolis Institute of Art

I walked over to the MIA,because i have not been there in a few years. I decided to sketch some of the statues.

The First one was this Roman statue in their Greek/Roman western antiquities wing.

The second turned out much nicer than the first, The first one in retrospect was like a warm-up for this one. I was really into the Fabric, i could have kept at this all day long but i drew this coming up on the closing hour of the Museum.

There is tons of new work i have displayed on the site.

I have been working constantly at drawing the Human figure in all sorts of positions, and angles. Stuff is really starting to come together for me. The best is yet to come.

Love this quote "Great paintings don’t happen by accident. First, you must craft a clear, artistic vision through drawing."

The quote is from Chris Oatley's article about Gustav Klimts drawings http://chrisoatley.com/gustav-klimt-drawings/

It is great article i recommend reading it. Chris Oatley's site has many great and insightful articles that are interesting reads. I would highly recommend checking out his site.

My current painting

I am working on a couple oil paintings, i will show some in progress work very soon.
