The Caravaggio Study and its Wip

July 9, 2014

This is my study of a Caravaggio piece.  I attached a Wip file of it also. I tried to take screen shots whenever I remembered to. Hopefully this will
give a little bit of insight into the process of my study.

I felt it was a great study of value, light, brushstroke, and color. I enjoyed every minute of it. I tried to use his process
as far as i could see documented. I started with a really dark umber ground. Then moved on to gray scale for the
character. I then used several color layers to build up color. After the color layers i collapsed the painting down.
I then painted directly on top of the canvas to push color, and value.
