These are some short pose life drawings from the last weekend. It has been a month since I went to my last co-op so I feel These were pretty good for getting back into the swing of things.
Playing with Lighting and Color portrait
I took a lighting scheme inspired by Sargent's Lady Agnew, and tried to apply it to a photo of the singer from Shiny Toy Guns. I tried to keep her likeness as much as possible even though I am not to concerned about it.
Mixed media portrait
Mixed Media drawing. I originally started the drawing in Charcoal. Then I ended up taking a picture of it, then played around with it more in photoshop.
The Mighty Throg
I decided to paint The Mighty Throg! Here is a the digital painting I did in photoshop, and the drawing I scanned.
Todays Warm-up portrait before a day of painting.
Warm up from earlier in the day.
Throw Preview!
Throg Preview! The next digital painting I am working on!
Master study of John Singer Sargent's Madame-X
Master study after John Singer Sargent. I focused on skin tone, economy of brushstroke, and edges.
My Late Birthday Present for my brother.
Get Carter Rocket Raccoon. This Is a sketch cover I made for a birthday present for my brother. I am like a month late with it, but i did originally have It planned haha.
First time I have touched Oil paint in 3 years.
First time i have touched oil paint in 3 years. I figured this would get me back into the swing of things! Wish I had a little better photo quality.
Female Celtic Warrior Portrait
A portrait of a female Celtic warrior done with minimal reference. This is the product of head construction.
Squirrelpool Photobomb
A bit of a Squirrelpool remix. Photobomb edition.
Portrait Sketch 5
This is the 5th portrait sketch. I wanted to give Kyle T. Webster's oil brushes another go to see if I could start to achieve the painterly look I strive for.
Charcoal Sketch 4
Charcoal Sketch 4. another charcoal on newsprint.
Third Charcoal portrait sketch
The third charcoal portrait sketch of the year. Another Charcoal on Newsprint.
Second Charcoal portrait sketch
I thought it would be a nice challenge to try rendering a person of darker skin color. It was definitely more challenging. Doing the skin tones is like working in reverse. I was afraid the value would be to muddled, or the head would turn out to flat. I am pleased with the result though.
Charcoal Portrait Sketch
This is the first charcoal portrait for the beginning of the year. Hopefully I can get in the habit of posting these more often. I am going to try to get one done atleast every other day.
Squirrel pool
Squirrelpool is an unstoppable killing machine. He kicks ass, and eats acorns… and he is all out of acorns!
I decided to do something different as a break from doing figures, and studies. It was something fun, and crazy so I had to depict it. Everyonce in awhile during the process I would just stop, and laughs at the ridiculousness of this creature.
An old drawing I tried to experiment with and Freshen up.
This was an old drawing i did a few years back I tried to freshen up. It reminded me that is just better off re-drawing something. It was really hard to stamp out all of the quirks of the old drawing. I still didn't completely. I still see wonky things. Overall it was a nice experiment in loose brushwork, value, and color chroma. I think you could flip a coin either way on it being to sloppy, or considered loose. With this one I tried to experiment with a warm underpainting. The whole thing glows warm because of this. I think the colors are probably overall to saturated In all the wrong places. I still though I would share.
A Prud'hon Warm up
It is not exactly spot on in the likeness, but that really was not my concern. The piece was done as more of a warm-up. A experiment with Chalk, and Charcoal. It was done on Newsprint. I was surprised the paper held up to the abuse I was giving it. I worked on it for a couple hours and decided I to put it down. I thought I would share!
